Part choices set cost long after the schematic looks finished.

The Challenge
The cost of a product is not the distributor price of its dearest integrated circuit. The part you choose sets the board area, the assembly steps, the test time, the smallest quantity you can buy, the risk that the line stops, and the cost of a redesign when the part goes away. A cheaper part that forces a second process, a reel you cannot use, or a single-source connector can raise the cost you actually pay.
Price the part at the quantity you will buy for a named build, then add the process and the exposure it drags in. If those extras are unknown, leave the cell blank. An invented yield is not a model. Every figure below is hypothetical teaching maths: not a quotation, not a wage, and not a BrahmWorks price.

Description
This Insights guide explains Component Cost Impact for founders and engineering teams building hardware that must be manufactured, tested, and handed off. Price the part at the quantity you will buy for a named build, then add the process and the exposure it drags in. If those extras are unknown, leave the cell blank. It also covers unit price is the smallest column; minimum buy, breaks, and the second source; modules against the parts inside them.

The Outcome
The price has a quantity, a package, a seller and a date. Prototype price and production price are not treated as the same contract. Extended cost includes surplus you must buy and cannot fit.
“The cost of a product is not the distributor price of its dearest integrated circuit.”
